The Star of Texas Award was created by the Texas Legislature to honor the bravery and sacrifice of Texas first responders. The awards are given to each peace officer, firefighter, and emergency medical first responder who was killed or sustained serious injuries in the line of duty on or after September 1, 2003.
The Governor’s Star of Texas Award Advisory Committees are currently accepting nominations for the 2010 awards. Nominations can be submitted online on the Governor’s website at http://www.governor.state.tx.us/star_of_texas. The submission deadline is July 31, 2010.
To be eligible for the 2010 awards, the critical incident must have occurred between September 1, 2003 and June 30, 2010, and the first responder must not have previously received a Star of Texas Award for that particular incident. The awards will be presented by the Governor or his designee on September 7, 2010.
Your assistance in identifying all eligible first responders for these important awards is appreciated. Please feel free to share this information. If you have any questions or concerns regarding nominations, please contact Jeffrey Badre at (512) 463-1789 or jeffrey.badre@governor.state.tx.us.
