Re: Funeral Services for Assistant Director (AD) Jack Colley, Texas Division of Emergency Management (TDEM)
The Colley Family and the TDEM greatly appreciates the significant outpouring of respect, condolences, and tributes to the late AD Jack Colley. This is a testament to the significant impact AD Colley has made across the State of Texas.
It is requested however due to limited parking and strict military protocol at the National Cemetery in Dallas-Fort Worth where AD Colley will be laid to rest, those wishing to honor AD Colley not bring large fire fighting or first responder apparatus/equipment to these locations.
The Dallas Police Department (DPD) and Dallas Fire-Rescue (DFR) will set aside an area along the procession route for static Emergency Vehicles so their agency and personnel may render honors to AD Colley. Generally this is Fire Apparatus or other large Emergency Vehicles, but representatives from any agency are welcome to park in the area. Personnel staffing the equipment or vehicle should be in dress uniform or appropriate attire. Staging will begin at 0800 on Friday on a first come, first served basis. The area will close at 0930. Restroom facilities will be available on-site.
To access the area, participants come to Spur 408 and West Illinois Avenue where representatives from DPD and DFR will meet them and provide on-scene instruction. (Illinois merges into Mountain Creek Parkway). POCs: Lt Jeff Cotner, Dallas PD 214.802.0720 or Battalion Chief Trixie Lohrke, Dallas Fire-Rescue 469.323.5815
Those agencies that wish to send Honor Guard representatives, please coordinate your participation through Dallas Police Department Sergeant David Conley, 214-542-3930.

Quotes from a dynamic, dedicated, caring leader; a true statesman:
“This is Jack Colley at the State Operations Center, thank you for being on this call”
“Thank all of you for what you do for Texas, Jack”
“If you ask Jack Colley what is your number one priority, I will tell you that it is to assure
that every Texan is safe from harm in all disasters”
Chief Jack Colley ran the State Division of Emergency Management passed away shortly after noon on May 16th. He passed away very peacefully.
He had been hospitalized since suffering a heart attack in early May, the DPS said Monday.
Colley, who headed recovery efforts in the aftermath of such major disasters as the breakup of the shuttle Columbia in 2003, Hurricane Rita in 2005 and Hurricane Ike in 2008, was 62.
Colley served in the Army from 1970 to 1997, retiring as a colonel before joining the DPS.
“Jack Colley was a valuable member of the Texas Department of Public Safety and a national icon in the profession of Emergency Management,” said Steve McCraw, director of the DPS.
“Jack was a great Texan, and our thoughts and prayers are with his family during this difficult time,” McCraw said.
